Sri Lanka beat India in the second T20 by 4 wickets. The match that was supposed to take place on the 27th took place a day later after team India had to isolate 7 players due to the Covid protocols. India made 7 changes to their team. Sri Lanka captain Shanaka won the toss and elected to field first.
Indian openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shikhar Dhawan started well scoring 49 runs in 6 overs. The Sri Lankan bowlers came back well after the first breakthrough. They did not let any batsman settle down and bowled very economically. Sri Lanka restricted India to a below-par total of 132 in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka on the other hand started off slow. Indian bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the Indian bowlers giving away only 18 runs in his 4 overs and taking a crucial wicket. Dhananjay de Silva played exceptionally for Sri Lanka scoring and remaining unbeaten on 40 off 34 balls. He along with Hasaranga’s late flourish took the game away from India.
Putting up such a low target, the game was always in Sri Lanka’s hands. Indian bowlers tried their best to give themselves a chance but it wasn’t to be.
Sri Lanka has now leveled the 3 match series 1-1 and it all comes down to the final T20 international on the 29th. India on the other hand has problems regarding the availability of players. Navdeep Saini’s injury has added to India’s woes. India doesn’t really have enough options on the bench to choose from thanks to the Covid regulations
