The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to review the Indian men’s team’s performances after disappointing results in the recent white-ball series. The review will cover India’s tours of Ireland, England and the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.
India faced their first-ever T20I series defeat against Ireland after losing both matches in Belfast. The team then suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against England in the T20I series. The losses also ended India’s stay at the top of the ICC T20I rankings after more than two years. India also lost the ODI series 2-1 to England after Harry Brook’s side won the final match at Lord’s. However, India have started well in Zimbabwe by winning the first two matches of the series.
According to Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the review will begin in August. It will mainly focus on India’s performances in the UK, where the team managed only one victory in the ODI series. The board has not yet confirmed the date of the meeting. Saikia also said that the contracts of the support staff will be reviewed.
Test squad for Sri Lanka series expected on Tuesday
Reports have suggested that assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has asked the BCCI to relieve him of his duties after completing his initial two-year term. The future of fielding coach T Dilip is also uncertain after India’s poor fielding and catching displays during the England tour.
The report also stated that India’s squad for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka is expected to be announced on Tuesday, July 28. The series will be played in Galle and Colombo from August 15 to 27.
Jasprit Bumrah’s availability remains uncertain after missing the final ODI against England because of a knee injury. Meanwhile, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is unlikely to be selected as he continues his recovery from a quadricep injury. He has resumed bowling at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru but is not yet ready for Test cricket. He is expected to return during India’s white-ball matches in September.
