The Indian football team performed magnificently in its impressive Asian Cup qualification campaign as it earned 2 places to jump to 104th in the latest FIFA world rankings.

The Blue Tigers are placed just below New Zealand (103rd), who missed 2022 FIFA World Cup spot following losing to Costa Rica 0-1 in the intercontinental play-off earlier this month.

India’s ranking among Asian Football Confederation members, still remained constant at 19th place. Iran preserved the top spot among AFC countries at 23rd place.

The Sunil Chhetri-led side had their best ever Asian Cup qualification campaign earlier this month when they triumphed all 3 of their league games to top group D and earn a place in the 24-team Finals to be conducted in 2023.

This was India’s 5th overall qualification and the first time, the country qualified for consecutive Asian Cups.

In the overall rankings, Brazil remained on top, 3 months following taking the top spot from Belgium (2nd).

Argentina jumped 1 place to 3rd at the expense of France (4th) who paid the price for 4 winless matches in the UEFA Nations League.

England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark book the top-10.

The next FIFA world rankings will be released on 25th of August.
