England captain Harry Brook has created history in T20I cricket. He became the only captain from a Full Member nation to score two T20I centuries in a single calendar year.
Brook achieved the feat during England’s first T20I against Sri Lanka in Southampton on Tuesday. He smashed an unbeaten 114 off just 49 balls. His century came from 42 deliveries.
The innings was also Brook’s highest T20I score as England captain. It continued his excellent run with the bat in the shortest format during 2026.
Brook’s two centuries this year have given him a unique record. No other Full Member captain had previously scored two T20I hundreds in the same calendar year.
Brook joins select group of T20I century-makers
Brook has also entered an elite group for T20I centuries as captain. He now has two hundreds in only 23 innings as skipper.
Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam have scored three T20I centuries each as captains. However, Rohit needed 62 innings to reach his tally, while Babar took 78 innings.
The comparison also highlights Brook’s quick start as England’s T20I captain. His latest century came in an aggressive innings against Sri Lanka.
Brook’s record becomes even more notable when compared with captains in other formats. Ricky Ponting holds the Test record, with seven centuries as captain in 2006.
In ODIs, Virat Kohli scored six centuries as captain across 2017 and 2018.
