Football supporters have derided Cristiano Ronaldo following he was left red-faced after a missed penalty versus Middlesbrough.
Ronaldo, had the chance to open the scoring from penalty spot for Red Devils on Friday night after Paul Pogba was fouled by defender Anfernee Dijksteel in his own penalty box.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo wasted his effort wide of goal to shock the Old Trafford masses, while the travelling fans celebrated wildly after Ronaldo’s miss.
‘Penaldo is truly finished’, one fan cited on Twitter following his horror miss. ‘Penaldo missed his favourite meal’, another Twitter user mentioned.
‘Nobody should miss the target from 12 yards. Should dock wages if a professional does it,’ one supporter recommended.
‘Can’t do the only thing making him relevant,’ another tweet stated. ‘Let’s all laugh at Ronaldo,’ stated one fan, after a series of laughing emojis.
In the meantime, there was also a humorous reaction from Manchester United’s YouTuber Mark Goldbridge, who shouted ‘Siuu’ on his live stream – only to see Ronaldo.
Talking about the penalty, Man Untd legend Roy Keane staited: “Obviously the biggest shock is Ronaldo. Can we criticise him? Course we can. He has got to hit the target, Wrighty will obviously be even more critical.”
“To be honest, it is one thing you’re not expecting him to miss the whole target,” he stated.
“I think he is trying to be very precise there. Especially with the way this goalie started very nervously, you just want to get that on target. But that was a massive shock.”
Moments later, Jadon Sancho’s powerful strike made Manchester United attain a lead.
However, Boro equalised in the second half and took the game to penalties following holding United to a 1-1 draw.
The Red Devils lost the shootout and were thrown out of the tourney.
