The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has announced a list of 146 registered players for the 2027 mini-auction. The auction will take place on October 28, with five franchises looking to fill 27 available slots.
England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australia spinner Sophie Molineux are the most expensive players in the registered pool. Both have set their base price at INR 50 lakh. They are the only two players in this bracket.
The remaining players are divided into four base-price categories. Four players have registered at INR 40 lakh, while 30 players have entered the auction at INR 30 lakh. Another four players have set their base price at INR 20 lakh. The largest group consists of 106 players with a base price of INR 10 lakh.
The WPL also confirmed that the auction will be streamed live on JioHotstar on October 28.
Indian Players Dominate WPL 2027 Auction Pool
Indian cricketers make up the majority of the registered players. The list includes 119 Indian players, comprising 22 capped and 97 uncapped cricketers.
The overseas contingent has 27 players. It includes 14 capped and 13 uncapped cricketers. However, franchises can fill only seven overseas slots during the auction.
Across all five teams, 20 slots are available for Indian players. This means competition for places is expected to be intense, especially among uncapped cricketers looking for their first WPL contract.
Several experienced international players are also part of the pool. These include Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, Australia’s Grace Harris, South Africa’s Chloe Tryon and New Zealand’s Rosemary Mair.
The mini-auction will give franchises an opportunity to strengthen their squads ahead of the next season. Teams will need to balance experienced players with young talent while working within their available slots.
With only 27 places available for 146 registered players, not everyone will secure a contract. Dunkley and Molineux will attract attention because of their high base prices, while the large group of players listed at INR 10 lakh could offer franchises affordable options.
