Why Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni Did Not Attend Akash Deep’s Wedding in Varanasi

India pacer Akash Deep married Akshita Raj in a traditional ceremony on June 24 at the Taj Ganges Hotel in Varanasi. The wedding was a private event attended by close family members and friends.

Akash shared photos and videos from the ceremony on Instagram. He captioned the post: “This beautiful wedding felt more like documenting two legends walking out for their forever innings.”

However, many fans noticed the absence of some of Indian cricket’s biggest stars. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni were not seen at the wedding. This quickly became a talking point on social media.

Why Kohli, Rohit and Dhoni Were Not Invited

A video from the wedding has been circulating online. In the clip, a guest asked Akash whether he had invited “Virat Kohli bhaiya, Dhoni and Rohit bhaiya.”

Akash reportedly replied that it would have been impossible to conduct the wedding smoothly in Varanasi if they had attended.

The reason was simple. The arrival of stars like Kohli, Rohit, or Dhoni would have attracted huge crowds. Security arrangements would have become much more complicated. A small family event could have turned into a large public gathering.

Akash chose to keep the wedding simple and private. The pre-wedding celebrations, including the mehendi and haldi ceremonies, had already attracted attention on social media. Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh was among the guests who attended and blessed the couple.

Away from the wedding celebrations, Akash is also focusing on his cricket comeback. The 29-year-old has been out of action since early 2026 due to a recurring lower-back stress injury. He missed the entire IPL 2026 season while recovering at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The fast bowler could return during India’s home Test series against Sri Lanka in August. He may also be available for the New Zealand tour later in the year.

Akash has played 10 Tests for India and taken 28 wickets. His memorable 10-wicket match haul against England at Edgbaston in July 2025 remains one of the highlights of his career so far.
