Punjab Kings hold their nerve to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets

Punjab Kings finally kept their nerve to win a thriller of a match. They beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets in this nail-biting contest. Punjab Kings won the toss and captain KL Rahul elected to field first. This was a must-win game for Punjab as they were stranded at 8 points.

Venkatesh Iyer continued his magnificent form with the bat as he scored another 50 in the second phase of IPL. He scored 67 runs off 49 balls which included 9 fours and 1 six. He was assisted by the in-form Rahul Tripathi who scored 34 off 26 balls. These two classy batsmen took the KKR total to 165 runs in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3 wickets in his quota of 4 overs.

In the second innings, the Punjab openers started off brilliantly scoring 46 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. They scored off every bowler and their partnership of 70 runs was very crucial. Mayank Agarwal scored 40 runs while KL Rahul took the game till the last over scoring 67 runs. The match went down the wire as the Punjab openers were losing wickets towards the back end of the match. Shahrukh khan held his nerve down the order as he took his team home.

KL Rahul was awarded the man of the match award for his beautiful and clever knock.
