Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a fine bowling performance for East Zone in their Duleep Trophy 2026 quarterfinal against North East Zone.
The 15-year-old left-arm spinner picked up two wickets in the same over on August 23. The match is being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Sooryavanshi dismissed Kishan Lyngdoh and Imliwati Lemtur in quick succession. Lyngdoh was caught at mid-wicket while trying to attack on the leg side.
Lemtur then edged a front-foot defence to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.
The young spinner finished with two wickets for 11 runs from three overs. His spell added more pressure on North East Zone.
Sooryavanshi adds value with bat and ball
East Zone had already taken control of the match with a huge first-innings total of 467 runs. North East Zone were then bowled out for just 111.
Sooryavanshi also made a small contribution with the bat. He scored eight runs in East Zone’s big total.
North East Zone struggled again in their second innings. They were reduced to 79 for seven before lunch on Day 3, leaving East Zone close to a big victory.
Sooryavanshi is the vice-captain of East Zone for the Duleep Trophy. Ishan Kishan is leading the side.
The youngster entered the tournament with strong form. He was recently named Player of the Series during India’s T20I tour of Zimbabwe.
Sooryavanshi scored two half-centuries in three innings during that series.
His bowling performance in Bengaluru has now added another dimension to his game. The teenager is known mainly for his explosive batting.
However, his ability to contribute with the ball could make him an even more valuable player for East Zone as the tournament continues.
