The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged three individuals linked to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over alleged corruption during the latest Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The three are Muhammad Mukhlesur Rahman Shamim, Zakir Hossain and Rakibul Islam Sunny. All three have been provisionally suspended.
Shamim was a BCB director in 2025-26. He also chaired the board’s Audit Committee. Zakir worked as the BCB’s Security Liaison Officer. Sunny is a former BCB councillor from Bogura District. He also served as member-secretary of the BCB Audit Committee.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board Integrity Unit (BCBIU) carried out the investigation. The probe looked into alleged match corruption and other violations of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
Charges Against the Three Individuals
Shamim faces the most charges. He has been charged under Article 2.1.1 for allegedly fixing or improperly influencing a BPL match. He also faces Article 2.1.4 for allegedly encouraging another participant to engage in corrupt conduct.
He has two more charges. Article 2.4.4 relates to an alleged failure to report a corrupt approach to the designated anti-corruption officer (DACO). Article 2.4.7 concerns alleged obstruction of the investigation by concealing, deleting or destroying information.
Zakir faces charges under Articles 2.1.1 and 2.1.4. He is also accused under Article 2.4.6 of failing to cooperate with the DACO’s investigation.
Sunny faces two charges. Article 2.4.4 relates to an alleged failure to report a corrupt approach. Article 2.4.6 concerns alleged non-cooperation with the investigation.
All three have 14 days from receiving their Notices of Charge to respond.
At least eight individuals have now been formally charged over the 12th edition of the BPL. This includes five people involved in earlier BCB proceedings.
The investigations are still ongoing. No final penalties or outcomes have been announced.
