Cricket teams taking part in the Asian Games 2026 have been given the option to make their own accommodation arrangements.
Teams are not required to stay in the hotels provided by the organisers. They can choose another hotel if they believe it is more convenient.
The decision comes after concerns from some of the top cricketing nations. The issue was discussed at a recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.
The main concern was the distance between the official accommodation and the cricket venue. The designated hotel is around 20 kilometres from Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture.
Miyaji explained that the Asian Games is being organised by the Aichi-Nagoya Games Organizing Committee (AINAGOC) in collaboration with the ACC under the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Venue Facilities Ready for Asian Games Cricket
Miyaji also addressed concerns about toilet facilities at the venue. He confirmed that toilets will be available inside the player area.
“Please note that toilets will be available within the player area. There are both temporary and permanent facilities at the venue. The facilities on the ground are temporary, but AINAGOC have worked very closely with the ACC for over a year now to ensure that the best facilities are provided within the limited timeline and facility restrictions,” Miyaji said.
Korogi Sports Park was developed in just 17 months for the Asian Games. Aichi Prefecture previously had no cricket facility of recognised standard.
Sri Lanka Cricket helped prepare the playing surface. Its curators worked on the turf and hybrid pitches. Temporary dressing rooms have also been installed.
“It will be a full size ground with turf and hybrid pitches prepared by the best curators which Sri Lanka Cricket should be credited for providing. There are limits on what they can do within these tight limits, but from what I have seen, the playing surface and field will be the best seen in Cricket’s inclusion in the Asian Games,” said Miyaji.
The women’s T20 event will run from September 17 to 22. The men’s competition will follow from September 24 to October 1.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have direct entry into the men’s quarter-finals. India are also direct quarter-finalists in the women’s event.
