Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme produced a stunning performance to win the men’s 100m gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Despite heavy rain and difficult conditions, Eseme crossed the finish line in a new Games record time of 9.83 seconds.
The 32-year-old broke the previous Commonwealth Games record set by Ato Boldon 28 years ago in Kuala Lumpur. It was a memorable victory for the Cameroonian sprinter, who only started competing in athletics eight years ago.

Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy delivered an impressive run to take the silver medal. His performance also set a new Oceania Area Record. Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi finished third and claimed the bronze medal.
After the race, Eseme said, “That was a crazy race! I’m surprised at the time.”
He also praised all the athletes for competing in the same tough conditions.
“The weather I didn’t want to be a setback, you know, because we’re all competing in the same environment, so I can’t have a complaint.”
“If I have a complaint, it means everyone has a complaint, so I just wanted to have the least of the complaints.”
In the women’s 100m final, New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs claimed the gold medal with an outstanding run from lane seven. She clocked 10.93 seconds and broke her own Oceania Area Record despite the wet track.
Hobbs, who is known as a 60m specialist, made a fast start and stayed in front throughout the race.
England’s Amy Hunt recovered from a slow start to win the silver medal. Australia’s Torrie Lewis finished third to take bronze. All three medal winners completed the race in under 11 seconds.
The sprint finals provided one of the biggest highlights of the Commonwealth Games, with records falling despite the challenging weather in Glasgow.
