India agonized a 0-2 loss to Jordan in an international football friendly as the return of virtuoso Sunil Chhetri did not prove to be enough for Indian squad.
Jordan, the 91st-ranked, netted 2 goals whilst India, placed at 106th in the FIFA rankings, rarely managed a shot on target at the Qatar Sports Club.
India, who are composing for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup final round qualifiers, will compete against Cambodia on 8th of June in Kolkata in a Group D game.
The match was India’s last preparatory outing before the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Jordan looked better than the Indian side to begin with, Jordan produced the first two chances of the game — a free-kick and a shot — but both were wide. Even though Jordan looked to score, the Indian defence stood firm.
However in the end, India experienced yet another defeat in the international level.
Chhetri, 37, last played for India during their 3-0 victory over Nepal in the SAFF Championships final in October 2021.
