Indian men’s hockey smashed hosts Indonesia 16-0 to qualify for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup.
The colossal victory not only gained India’s way into the knockout stage of the tourney but also closed the door on Pakistan.
Both India and Pakistan ended on 4 points each in Pool A behind Japan however the holders qualified for the Super 4s on the basis of a better GD (goal difference) which was 1.
India desperately needed to defeat Indonesia by a 15-0 margin or more to make it to the next round and the defending champions rode on superb show from Dipsan Tirkey, who forged 5 goals, and Sudev Belimagga, who hammered the board thrice.
Virtuoso SV Sunil, Pawan Rajbhar and Karthi Selvam scored a brace each whilst Uttam Singh and Nilam Sanjeep Xess scored a goal each.
Pakistan had lost 2-3 to Japan ahead in the day.
