Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav has been handed a two-year ban by the BCCI after discrepancies were found in his official age records.
The suspension has taken immediate effect from September 4, 2026.
Rohit has also been dropped from India’s Under-19 setup. He was expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming home series against Australia U19.
The series starts on September 18 in Rajkot.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) first noticed the irregularities. It then informed the BCCI about the issue. The national board investigated the matter and imposed the two-year suspension.
The Australia U19 tour includes three Youth ODIs. They will be played on September 18, 21 and 23 in Rajkot.
Two Youth Tests will follow. The first Test will be played from September 27 to 30 in Rajkot. The second is scheduled from October 5 to 8 in Ahmedabad.
Multiple changes found in Rohit Yadav’s records
Rohit’s age records reportedly showed three different birth years.
When he registered with the CAB in 2014, his date of birth was listed as July 7, 2007.
His Aadhaar card was updated in 2017. His birth year was then changed to 2006.
Another update in 2021 changed the birth year again. It was listed as 2009.
His registered address also changed during this period. It was initially listed in Uttar Pradesh. It was later changed to Liluah in Howrah, West Bengal.
The CAB flagged the changes to the BCCI. The board then decided that the discrepancies warranted a two-year ban.
Rohit had been an important wicket-taker for India U19. He took six wickets in a Youth Test against Sri Lanka U19. His performance helped India secure a 211-run victory.
His absence could particularly hurt India in the two Youth Tests. The team may now need another spin option.
The BCCI is expected to name a replacement soon. However, an official replacement had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
