Tiger Woods has pleaded guilty to reduced charges following his March rollover crash in Florida. The golf legend appeared at the Martin County Courthouse in Stuart on Wednesday, September 2. He reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test. His driver’s license will be suspended for five years. He must also pay a $1,000 fine.
Woods arrived at court with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump. The case came from a March 27 crash on Jupiter Island. Woods was initially charged with DUI with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test. He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Tiger Woods Receives Reduced Charges After Crash
According to authorities, Woods was driving a Land Rover when it clipped a truck pulling a trailer. The vehicle then rolled over.
Woods managed to get out through the passenger-side window. He was not seriously injured.
Deputies said Woods showed several signs of impairment. They reported that he had a stumbling gait and glassy eyes. He also failed field sobriety exercises.
Woods’ breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system. However, authorities said he refused to provide a urine sample. Deputies also said they found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.
After the crash, Woods announced that he was stepping away from golf to seek treatment and focus on his health. A judge later allowed him to travel overseas for treatment. He returned to the United States in June.
The new plea deal reduces the charges against Woods from the original DUI case.
The judge also gave Woods a strict warning about his driving suspension.
“If you drive for any reason at all, you will be going back to jail,” the judge told him, per Page Six.
Woods previously faced a similar case in 2017. Police found him asleep behind the wheel of his running car in Florida. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
The latest agreement brings an end to the criminal case stemming from his March crash.
