The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is now entering its most exciting phase. After the group stage, eight teams have qualified for the Super-8 round. India, Zimbabwe, South Africa and West Indies are placed in Group 1. Pakistan, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are in Group 2.
The first Super-8 match will be played on February 21 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The tournament has already produced many surprises. Australia’s early exit shocked fans across the cricket world.
Road to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 qualification
West Indies were not considered strong contenders at the start. However, they remained unbeaten in the group stage and collected eight points from four matches. The two-time champions now hope to win a third title.
Sri Lanka enjoyed home support as co-hosts. They won their first three matches and confirmed qualification early. One of their best performances came against Australia.
New Zealand also reached the next round after mixed results. They defeated Afghanistan, UAE and Canada but lost to South Africa in Ahmedabad. The team now aims for its first T20 World Cup trophy.
England began with a last-ball win over Nepal. They then lost to West Indies at Eden Gardens. Later victories against Scotland and Italy helped them qualify.
Zimbabwe produced one of the biggest upsets. They beat Oman and then stunned Australia. A washed-out match against Ireland finally secured their place.
South Africa stayed unbeaten in the group stage. They defeated Canada comfortably and then beat Afghanistan in a dramatic double super over. Wins against New Zealand and UAE sealed qualification.
Pakistan had a smooth journey with wins over USA, Namibia and Netherlands. Their only defeat came against India.
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, won all four matches. They also beat Pakistan in Colombo. India will face South Africa on February 22, Zimbabwe on February 26 and West Indies on March 1 in the Super-8 stage.
