CSA Revise T20 World Cup 2026 Squad as Injuries Force Late Changes

Cricket South Africa (CSA) have confirmed changes to their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Batters Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs have been added to the team. They replace Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira, who are both injured.

The tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka next month. Injuries have already created problems for South Africa.
CSA were forced to update their original 15-member squad due to fitness concerns.

De Zorzi has failed to recover from a hamstring tear.
He picked up the injury during South Africa’s ODI series in India in December. As a result, he is ruled out of the World Cup and the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.

Ferreira’s setback came during the SA20. He fractured his shoulder while fielding for Joburg Super Kings.
This injury ended his World Cup hopes.

Rickelton rewarded, Miller a major concern for South Africa

Rickelton’s selection comes after strong performances in the SA20. He scored 337 runs in the tournament.
His average was 42.12 and his strike rate was 156.01. He had been left out of the initial squad announced on January 2. That decision had attracted criticism. Stubbs keeps his place despite modest SA20 numbers.
His availability helped him at a time when injuries have disrupted CSA’s plans.

David Miller is now the biggest worry for the Proteas.
He suffered an adductor injury while playing for Paarl Royals. He will miss the West Indies T20Is. He must pass a fitness test before the World Cup.

Lungi Ngidi and Dewald Brevis have also picked up injuries. Both are expected to recover in time. Ngidi’s possible return means Ottneil Baartman misses out again.

If Miller fails to recover, Rubin Hermann could be considered. CSA have already started adjusting their batting plans. Rickelton is now a strong option near the top order.
