As Harmanpreet Kaur and Team India prepare for their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 opener against Sri Lanka on September 30 in Guwahati, the captain has made her message clear. The team will only focus on cricket. She dismissed all outside noise, including talks about their much-awaited clash with Pakistan.
Harmanpreet Kaur Reflects on Facing Pakistan in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025
Speaking at the ICC Media Day, where all eight team captains addressed the media, Harmanpreet stressed the importance of a strong beginning.
“Right now, our main focus is on the opening game because that is very important. The opening game is always very important for any team. Our focus is on that because that game is going to set the tone for us.
“Secondly, all the teams are equally important. We can only control things that we can control. We’re here to play cricket, and our main focus is on cricket. We’re not going to entertain anything else on the field because we’re here to play the game, and our focus will remain on playing cricket,” Kaur told reporters in Bengaluru.
Her words came after India suffered a tough warm-up defeat to England. India lost that match by 152 runs, raising concerns about their form before the tournament begins. But Kaur believes her team is ready to bounce back with focus and discipline.
India’s high-profile match against Pakistan will take place on October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The game is already one of the most talked-about fixtures of the tournament. The hype has only grown stronger because of the heated contests between the men’s teams in the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Women’s World Cup 2025 has eight top teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand. India are seen as strong contenders to reach the knockout stage. But they know the start is crucial to building momentum.
For Harmanpreet Kaur, though, the formula is simple. Keep the noise away and play cricket.
