SA20 2026: Teams Announce List of Retained Players Ahead of Season 4 Auction

The SA20 Season 4 Auction is expected to be a blockbuster event. All six teams have revealed their pre-signed and retained players. Each team was allowed to keep up to six players three local and three overseas before the player retention window closed on 18 July.

Teams have also used their Wildcard picks. A Wildcard could be any overseas player or a South African who played in Season 3. The focus now shifts to the auction on 9 September in Johannesburg, where 84 players will be up for grabs.

The six teams will spend from a total purse of USD 7.4 million to fill their squads.

Team Strategy and Purse Breakdown for SA20 2026

Durban’s Super Giants kept top overseas stars Sunil Narine, Jos Buttler, and Noor Ahmad. Heinrich Klaasen was retained as a Wildcard. They have USD 1.6 million left to sign 15 more players.

Joburg Super Kings retained Faf du Plessis and signed English players James Vince, Akeal Hosein, and Richard Gleeson. Donovan Ferreira was picked as a Wildcard. They have USD 1.2 million to spend.

MI Cape Town, the defending champions, used all six slots. They kept Rashid Khan, Trent Boult, and Nicholas Pooran as overseas stars. Kagiso Rabada is their Wildcard. Their remaining purse is USD 654,000.

Paarl Royals continued to focus on youth. They retained teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius and signed Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza. Rubin Hermann was picked as a Wildcard. They have USD 825,000 left.

Pretoria Capitals kept only two players Will Jacks and Sherfane Rutherford plus Wildcard Andre Russell. They will enter the auction with the biggest purse of USD 1.8 million.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape retained Jonny Bairstow, Adam Milne, and young spinner Allah Ghazanfar. Marco Jansen is their Wildcard. They have USD 1.2 million left.

Big names like Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Dewald Brevis, and Tabraiz Shamsi will be available in the auction. League Commissioner Graeme Smith said teams are now better prepared and the auction will be the most exciting one yet.
