Delhi Capitals Women left-arm spinner Sree Charani has said the team will stay true to its plans ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 Eliminator. DC Women will face Gujarat Giants Women in the knockout match on Tuesday, February 3.
DC Women enter the crucial clash with confidence. They are coming off a strong five-wicket win over UP Warriorz in their final league match. The victory helped Delhi secure a place in the Eliminator.
Speaking before the match, Charani said the team is focused on keeping things simple. She stressed that DC Women do not want to overthink the pressure of a knockout game. Instead, the side plans to trust its strengths.
“We will just try to stick to our strengths against the Gujarat Giants. Everyone is chill in our duties. I had a talk with Laura and she said to take it as a simple match, not a qualification match. Everyone thought in the same way,” said Charani.
Senior Players Key to DC Women’s Calm Approach
Shree Charani credited senior batter Laura Wolvaardt for helping the team stay relaxed. She said Wolvaardt asked the players to treat the Eliminator like a normal league match. That mindset helped DC Women remain calm in their previous game.
Charani also praised experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp. She said Kapp’s work ethic inspires her to improve every day. Charani added that she is keen to learn from how Kapp trains and prepares.
“Kapp has good work ethics. I want to learn how she puts in the work and how she plays in the nets. I think I can learn from her and behave like that. Meg used to guide me a lot and now Jemimah is doing the same. She guides me a lot, in every match, every ball I bowl, she does that,” said Charani.
Delhi Capitals Women finished third in the league stage. They collected six points from eight matches. Gujarat Giants Women and Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women finished in the top two and qualified directly for the playoffs.
In their last league match, DC Women restricted UP Warriorz to 122/8. Deepti Sharma top-scored with 24. Marizanne Kapp took three wickets for 30 runs. Chinelle Henry and Sree Charani picked up two wickets each.
Delhi chased the target in 18.4 overs. Laura Wolvaardt scored a steady 47. Jemimah Rodrigues added 26. DC Women won by five wickets and booked their Eliminator spot.
