Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I form in 2025 has become a serious worry for Team India. In the second T20I against South Africa, he scored only five runs off four balls. He edged a delivery outside off and was caught by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. The dismissal showed a pattern. Suryakumar looks short on confidence. Bowlers also seem to have figured out his weaknesses, something that was rare in earlier years.
The struggle was visible in the first T20I in Cuttack as well. He made only 12 runs and never looked comfortable. His numbers this year reflect the slump. In 2025, he has scored 201 runs in 17 innings. His average is just 14.35. His strike rate is 126.41, far below his usual fearless style. He has three ducks this year. His highest score is an unbeaten 47.
Indian Captain Struggles to Find Rhythm in T20Is
With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 starting in February, his poor form is a major concern for the Indian team management. Since the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav has crossed fifty only twice in 26 innings. For a batter known for 360-degree stroke play, these numbers are well below expectations.
Across his career, he has 2766 runs in 90 innings at a strike rate of over 150. India needs him to return to those levels quickly. Although he had an excellent IPL 2025 season, his performances for India this year have been disappointing.
India are currently playing a five-match T20I series against South Africa. They lead 1-0 but face a tough challenge in the remaining games. Earlier in the tour, India lost the Test series 2-0 but won the ODI series 2-1. A strong comeback from Suryakumar will be essential as India prepares for the global event.
