India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is set for a packed schedule in the coming weeks. The star batter will first lead India in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. After the red-ball series, he will return home to play in the inaugural edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League.
India’s Test series against Sri Lanka will begin on August 15 in Galle. The second and final Test will be played in Colombo from August 23. Once the series ends, Gill will switch to T20 cricket and take part in Punjab’s new domestic league.
According to The Indian Express, Gill, who is currently not part of India’s T20I squad, will feature in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League. The tournament is scheduled to begin on August 30, just two days after India’s tour of Sri Lanka concludes.
Gill Backs New Punjab T20 League
Apart from Gill, Gurnoor Brar is also expected to join the league after completing national duties. India T20I stars Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma are also likely to participate.
Speaking at an event related to the tournament, Gill praised the new competition and said it would help young players from Punjab.
“The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is a fantastic platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent and progress towards playing for Punjab and India. Punjab has always produced outstanding cricketers, and I believe this league will help discover many more. I congratulate the Punjab Cricket Association for this wonderful initiative and wish the league great success,” Gill said at an event related to the tournament on Sunday.
The inaugural edition of the league will feature six franchises representing Amritsar, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali and Bathinda. The player auction is scheduled for August 9, while the tournament final will be played on September 13 after 27 matches.
Gill heads into the competition after another impressive IPL season. Leading Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, he scored 732 runs in 16 matches, continuing his excellent form across formats.
