The BCCI announced in a statement that Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury.

Shreyas Iyer will be replaced by middle order batsman Rajat Patidar.

For Madhya Pradesh, Rajat Patidar has been performing admirably throughout the current Ranji Trophy. In five games (eight innings), the right-handed batter has scored 438 runs, including one century and three fifties.

One of India’s consistent ODI batters in 2022, Shreyas Iyer, failed to win any of his three games against Sri Lanka.

His scores ranged from 28 to 38. Suryakumar Yadav will have at least three chances to establish himself in the team if Iyer is unable to participate in the series due to a back issue.

At the back end, Surya and Hardik Pandya in the middle order will undoubtedly add firepower.

Ishan Kishan, a wicketkeeper and batsman, will also be expected to keep wickets given KL Rahul’s absence due to personal reasons.
