Royal Challengers Bangalore are all ready to name ‘Faf du Plessis’ as new captain for IPL 2022. The RCB has organized a press conference on March 12th at 4 PM for the same.
With Virat Kohli quitting as captain following IPL 2021, the post has been left empty. Glenn Maxwell was favourite to be named successor however RCB have decided to go with Du Plessis.
Whilst RCB were all set to declare the name on 8th of March, they have now decided to delay the statement. In a tweet, the franchise has cited that they will be celebrating 14 years of the team on 12th of March at the Museum Cross Road in Church Street.
The thing that was inverse for Glenn Maxwell was his unavailability in the first three matches in IPL 2022. In spite of not being named in the white-ball series versus Pakistan, Cricket Australia stopped all centrally contracted players from participating in the IPL until April 5th, which means the NOC will only be relevant from April 6th.
That meant, Faf du Plessis got opted. The former South African skipper has adequate amount of experience of captaincy having commanded the team in all three formats counting in the World Cup.
At Chennai Super Kings, Du Plessis was an assured starter and he will have his place locked in RCB’s Playing XI as an opener, opening the door to take over the command.
Moreover, Faf du Plessis’ possession was well-planned prior the auction. RCB went all in paying a whopping amount of ₹ 7 Cr to get his services.
