Mason Greenwood has been apprehended on suspicion of rape and assault following a woman claiming incidents of violence posted pictures and videos on social media.

He remains in custody for interrogation and enquiries are proceeding, Greater Manchester Police stated.

The force began an investigation after being made cognizant of the images and footage earlier on Sunday.

It comes following Man Utd declared that Greenwood would not return to training or play any games “until further notice” after he was cited of assailing a woman.

The allegations were revealed on Instagram on Sunday morning and included video, photographs, and a voice note affirmed to be a talk between Greenwood and the woman.

They have since been eradicated.

Manchester United stated in an earlier statement: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.”

“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.”

“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Greenwood made his debut in 2019 and has since notched up 129 appearances for the club.
