Punjab Kings have recruited former England first-class cricketer Julian Ross Wood as their batting consultant, with prominence on power-hitting, before the IPL 2022, starting on 26th of March.
Wood has an image as the developer in power-hitting coaching, having worked with players across the IPL, the Big Bash League and other T20 leagues. Back in the days, Wood has assisted the players like Ben Stokes, Prithvi Shaw, Sam Billings and Carlos Brathwaite with the method of staying still and hitting the ball far away.
With players like Liam Livingston, Jonny Bairstow, Shahrukh Khan and Raj Angad Bawa, who are massive hitters themselves, in the PBKS now, it will be fascinating to see how his efforts are showcased on the field.
He will work on the Punjab batters along with assistant coach Jonty Rhodes, who has been given added responsibility this season along with the fielding department.
The team cited on social media, “We are jubilant to announce Julian Ross Wood as our new batting consultant for #TATAIPL2022.”
Wood had been contacted by other IPL teams in the past as well however the COVID-19 pandemic made it late for his arrival in the cash-rich T20 league.
Punjab are in a serious need of a turnaround in their fortunes, having ended 6th out of 8 teams in the previous three seasons.
