Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has reportedly received British citizenship and a United Kingdom passport after completing all legal formalities. The development has created major discussion in the cricket world, especially about his possible participation in the IPL in the future.
Amir’s wife, Narjis Khan, is already a British citizen. Reports suggest her citizenship helped support Amir’s settlement process in the United Kingdom.
The news is important because Pakistani players have not played in the IPL for many years. Following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistani cricketers were banned from participating in the tournament. Since then, no Pakistan-registered player has featured in the league.
However, former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood managed to play in the IPL between 2012 and 2015 after entering the auction as an English player. Many fans now believe Amir could follow a similar path in IPL 2027.
Three IPL Teams That Could Target Mohammad Amir
Amir is still considered one of the most experienced T20 bowlers in world cricket. He has taken more than 400 wickets in the format and remains known for his deadly swing bowling, yorkers, and tight economy rate.
Punjab Kings could be interested after their poor bowling performances in IPL 2026. The team struggled badly with run control and wicket-taking throughout the season.
Chennai Super Kings may also look at Amir as a strong left-arm pace option. Their death bowling problems hurt the side during crucial matches this season.
Another franchise that may target him is Kolkata Knight Riders. Injuries and inconsistent fast bowling affected the team heavily in IPL 2026.
Although Amir’s IPL participation remains hypothetical, his British passport has certainly opened the door for future possibilities.
