Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says the club ‘definitely’ need to sign a striker in spite of being on top of the Premier League whilst barely picking anyone in striker’s role.
City have competed without an acknowledgeable striker for most of the season, having lost Sergio Aguero in the summer.
The club also flunked in an attempt to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
“I think the club needs a striker, definitely,” stated Guardiola, before Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“You say we play fantastically well without a striker because we are winning. When we are not winning, you say we need a striker.”
The club’s enduring top scorer Aguero, who scored 260 goals in all tournaments for City, quit to unite with Barcelona on a free transfer in July 2021.
Gabriel Jesus, has been used mostly as a winger by Guardiola this season.
Ferran Torres played plethora of games as a centre-forward earlier in the campaign, striking twice versus Arsenal in August, and prior signing for Barcelona in January.
Previous month, Guardiola disclosed that Spurs declined four bids for Kane last summer, with City signing his England team-mate Jack Grealish for a record of £100 Million instead.
City also bought Argentine forward Julian Alvarez in January prior loaning him immediately back to River Plate. He has scored 39 times in 100 club appearances.
And they also were anticipated to sign Cristiano Ronaldo before his joined with rivals Manchester United.
Current players in role:
With the absence of a centre-forward, Pep is using the likes of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Grealish to fill the duty. Sterling is the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with 10 goals.
Still mentioning to comments from the press, Guardiola appended: “You say how these guys play without a striker? In the Premier League you have to play with a striker.”
“So, we need a striker, I think the club is going to try.”
Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, has been strongly associated with City and could be one aim in the summer.
