Lucknow Super Giants beat KKR in a close game

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) became the second team to qualify for the IPL 2022 play-offs. They beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 2 runs in a final over thriller.

After chosing to bat first, Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul got off to a powerful start.

The duo remained undefeated till the 20th over as De Kock smashed 140(70). Rahul scored 68*(51) as Lucknow put up a huge 210/0 on the board.

In response, KKR got off to a poor start. Mohsin Khan sent off openers Venkatesh Iyer and Abhishek Tomar inside the powerplay overs.

Nevertheless, Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer added quick runs and kept KKR in the trail. Rana’s innings was wrapped up on 42(22), whilst Iyer contributed with a half-century off 29 balls. Sam Billings was stumped on 36 off 24 deliveries and  Andre Russell collapsed cheaply on 5(11).

But, Rinku Singh assured KKR stay in chase as he combined with Sunil Narine to push the game in the final over bowled by Marcus Stoinins.

It took efforts by Evin Lewis as Rinku’s cameo came to an end on 40(15). With 3 required of the final ball, Stonis dismissed Umesh Yadav as KKR fell short by 2 runs in the end.
