Mahendra Singh Dhoni has transferred the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Ravindra Jadeja, prior the beginning of this IPL season.
The occurrence comes just two days prior CSK open their campaign versus Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai in the season opener at Wankhede Stadium.
Dhoni, who was reserved as the symbol player by CSK in the maiden season in 2008, has commanded CSK to 4 titles in the 12 versions that he has led the team.
Under Dhoni, CSK settled themselves as the most compatible franchise in the league, qualifying for the play-offs every season except one.
“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team,” cited an official CSK release.
“Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” the release appended.
Before IPL 2022, CSK had preserved MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
