India moved up to third place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings after their thrilling six-run win over England at the Oval. The close match was the final Test of the five-match series, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Led by Shubman Gill, India showed great fight and spirit to defend 374 runs on the last day. England needed just 37 runs with four wickets in hand on Day 5, but India’s bowlers did the job. Mohammed Siraj took five wickets while Prasidh Krishna took four. Their efforts helped India grab a famous win.
With this victory, India earned important WTC points. Their points percentage (PCT) now stands at 46.67, which takes them to third place. England, after the loss, dropped to fourth with a PCT of 43.33. Australia remain at the top with a perfect 100 PCT, followed by Sri Lanka with 66.67.

Shubman Gill, who led India and also finished as the best batter of the series, was named Player of the Series by England coach Brendon McCullum. Gill praised both teams for their hard work. He said it was a close and exciting series. “When you have bowlers like Siraj and Prasidh, captaincy becomes easy,” he said.

Gill also shared his personal goals. “I wanted to improve as a batter. My aim was to be the top batter of the series, and I’m happy I achieved it,” he said. He also said that staying strong mentally helps the technique fall into place.
