India Finishes Fourth at Asian Games 2026 With 85 Medals After Strong Gold Medal Run

India finished fourth in the medal standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The Indian contingent won 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.

India remained among Asia’s leading sporting nations. However, its medal tally was lower than the 106 medals won at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. The 2026 campaign also saw India win seven fewer gold medals.

India’s Gold Medal Highlights

India won gold medals across nine sports. Archery led the way with five gold medals. Kumkum Mohod, Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep, Chikitha Taniparthi, Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal contributed to the strong showing.

Kumkum Mohod made history by winning India’s first-ever individual women’s recurve gold medal at the Asian Games. She also secured an Olympic quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Shooting also produced three gold medals. Neeru Dhanda won the women’s trap individual event and was also part of the mixed trap team that took gold. Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won the mixed team 10m air pistol title.

Boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal also won gold medals in their respective categories.

India retained its titles in both men’s and women’s cricket. The men defeated Pakistan in the final, while the women also secured gold.

Both Indian hockey teams won gold medals. The men defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final.

India also claimed gold in both men’s and women’s kabaddi. Aman Sehrawat and Sujeet Kalkal won wrestling gold medals.

Pranavi Urs created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.

Kumkum Mohod, Neeru Dhanda, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav finished as India’s multiple gold medallists, with two golds each.
