Gujarat Titans have not involved Suresh Raina as Jason Roy’s successor

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was unbought in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He was not preserved by Chennai Super Kings and they did not show any eagerness in purchasing him at the auction either.

Also known as ‘Mr.IPL’, Raina was anticipated to be picked up by a franchise at least for his base price. Nevertheless, that was not the case and thus he was unsold.

Latterly, fresh rumours were flourished that Raina was going to be picked up by the new franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT).

They missed England opener, Jason Roy, who said the bubble fatigue has affected his mental health. He also vouched that he will be on an undetermined break from cricket, the second player to do so following Ben Stokes.

As Roy’s replacement, it was assumed that Raina would be the ideal candidate for GT. Nonetheless, those rumours have been overruled by sources close to the GT franchise.

“No, Suresh Raina is not joining Gujarat Titans. He is not even in consideration for spot,” sources notified.

It all but concludes the connection of Raina with the IPL, at least for the time being. Presently, he is the 4th highest run-scorer in the history of the league. Raina has gathered 5,528 runs, just behind Virat Kohli (6,283), Rohit Sharma (5,784), and Shikhar Dhawan (5,611).

Hardik Pandya has been chosen as the captain of the GT side. He was signed by the franchise for ₹15 crores ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Gujarat Titans squad for IPL 2022:

Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Jason Roy, Lockie Ferguson, Abhinav Sadarangani, Rahul Tewatia, Noor Ahmad, R Sai Kishore, Dominic Drakes, Jayant Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Darshan Nalkande, Yash Dayal, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, Matthew Wade, Gurkeerat Singh, Varun Aaron, B Sai Sudharshan.
