Football match turns awful as players skirmish

Violent collisions between players of two football squads spoiled a game conducted at M S University campus late on Sunday night.

The BBA Students Association (BBASA) had conducted – Fortitude Season 8 – the semi-finals and final which was arranged at donor’s plaza ground on Sunday night.

However, one of the semi-final games turned awful evidently after the referee showed a yellow card to a player. Amusingly, no police complaint was filed in regard of the incident.

BBASA had conducted the football tourney after a break of two years. The distress arose during the semi-final between Baroda Wonders and UFC, sources stated.

When the referee showed a yellow card to a player of one team, one of the fans of the team jumped into heated arguments with the referee.

Eventually things took a turn with a fight between the players and outsiders. Even in the presence of the university’s surveillance staff and security staff of BBA programme, the havoc continued chasing players of another team, abuses and hitting them with sticks.

A total of 32, counting 7 girls’ teams, had taken part in the tourney. “As soon as the scuffle started, we took all the girl students inside the building and suspended further activities on the ground. We also switched off the light on the ground to end the scuffle,” stated K R Badola, associate director of BBA programme, further adding that not a single student of BBA programme was involved in the scuffle.

“Our priority was to ensure that all our students are safe. So, we suspended the activity, intervened to pacify both sides while ensuring that all our students reach home safe,” he stated.
