Brilliant Ruturaj leads Chennai Super Kings to victory over Mumbai Indians

Chennai super kings have defeated Mumbai Indians in the first game of the IPL phase 2. Chennai super kings beat them by 20 runs in a topsy turvy of a contest. Chennai’s MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first.

Dream Start for Mumbai Indians as the combination of pacers Boult and Milne rocked the Chennai top order. Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali went for a duck early on and to make matters worse for Chennai Ambati Rayudu had to go back retired hurt. Chennai were struggling at 24 for the loss of 4 wickets when Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched together an important partnership for the team.

 

Ruturaj Gaikwad steals the show with his stellar performance

Gaikwad led the Chennai comeback with a counterattack. He scored a brilliant 88 of 58 balls while all the other batsmen were struggling. His gem of a knock along with some important contributions down the order helped CSK put up a decent target of 156 in 20 overs.

 

The absence of Rohit Sharma proved to be fatal for the Mumbai batting

Rohit less Mumbai Indians opened the batting with Quinton de Kock and Anmol Preet Singh. They got decent starts but could not capitalize as the CSK bowlers were all over the MI batsmen. Deepak Chahar bowled beautifully with the new ball as he got rid of both the openers in the powerplay. He swung the ball magnificently to Trap the batsmen.

The only positive for Mumbai was Saurabh Tiwary’s knock of 50 runs which kept Mumbai in the game for quite some while but in the end, it was too little as Chennai begin the IPL phase 2 with a top win.

Gaikwad was rewarded with the man of the match for carrying the bat with his brilliant 88 runs.
