With the summer transfer window, Barcelona need to make some reductions to their squad in order to clear up space on their pay bill for new signings to be booked whilst observing with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules.
It has led to speculations about the future of some of the superb players in the squad.
Frenkie de Jong, for one, has become a latest topic of discussion in the media, amid strong links to Manchester United, where his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is expecting a reunion.
Nevertheless, as per reports, de Jong has no wish to quit Barcelona in the summer and anticipates to continue at Camp Nou beyond the current season.
However, for that to happen, de Jong will have to see a pay cut, according to reports.
The agreement de Jong signed with Barcelona when he came from Ajax in 2019 promised him a notable boost in salary in his fourth year at the club.
But, given the club’s current financial situation that might be impossible. Rather, the midfielder would have to take a reduction in order to continue at Camp Nou.
