India defeated Australia by 2 wickets in the first T20I out of 5 in Australia’s tour of India 2023. The young Indian side chased the highest ever score in T20 international against one of the most successful teams in the format, Australia.
Australia batted first to give a target of 208 runs in 20 overs to India as the wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis scored a century with 110 runs off just 50 balls as he hit 11 fours and 8 sixes. However, the Aussie’s century went in vain as India chased the target within 19.5 overs.
The opening batsmen Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav scored 58 and 80 runs off 39 and 42 balls respectively and the mid order batter Rinku Singh gave the final touches to lead India towards the victory. Rinku Singh put 22 runs on the board off 14 balls and smashed the winning shot to make India win.

“I think bowlers did a great job, we were put under pressure, but credit to Mukesh for the way he bowled, the wicket wasn’t easy to bowl on, but to go at less then 9 rpo was outstanding, Rinku as well, playing at the early stage of his career and playing that kind of innings, it was special”, Suryakumar Yadav said in the post match ceremony after winning the man of the match award.
“We didn’t want to put too much pressure on the later batters, credit to Surya bhai, he planned his innings superbly, he can always play the big shots whenever needed. The plan was to get quick runs (on the partnership), so even if I got out, we needed the runs on the board”, added Surya.
