Real Madrid’s striker named Champions League Player of the Season

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been named the Champions League Player of the Season following a superb 2020-21 campaign where he ended as top scorer, UEFA stated.

France international Benzema, 34, triumphed the tournament for the 5th time as Real trounce Liverpool 1-0 in the final, having netted 15 goals in 12 matches counting hat-tricks versus PSG and Chelsea in the knockout stages.

Benzema’s teammate Vinicius Junior, who netted the sole goal in the final in Paris, was named the tourney’s Young Player of the Season.

The combo were also named in the Team of the Season along with Real midfielder Luka Modric and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who played a magnificent role in the showdown at Stade de France.
