The Indian men’s football team will participate in an international friendly versus higher-ranked Zambia in Doha on 25th of May, AIFF stated.
The match is part of India’s groundwork for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers Final Round all set to be held in Kolkata from 8th of June.
The Indian senior team is ranked 106th in the FIFA chart, 19 places below the 87th ranked African nation.
“All India Football Federation confirms a friendly match for the Blue Tigers against Zambia in Doha on May 25,” the AIFF stated.
The game comes after the international friendlies in March when India had played versus Bahrain and Belarus in Bahrain.
Indian men have been camping since 23rd of April — first in Bellary, and then in Kolkata where the national squad will also be playing 2 more friendly games — one facing a combined All-Star XI from the I-League and the other with the Bengal Santosh Trophy group.
Team India have already played ATK Mohun Bagan in another friendly game on 11th of May in, which they lost 1-2.
The Asian Cup Qualifiers Final Round will be conducted across 3 match days on 8th, 11th and 14th of June with the group winners and the best five second-placed teams securing a ticket to the main tourney in China which is slated to start on 16th of June next year.
