Mumbai City FC becomes first Indian team to triumph AFC Champions League Game

Mumbai City FC made history by becoming the first Indian team to triumph an AFC Champions League match.

Mumbai City FC squad came back from 0-1 down to defeat Air Force Club of Iraq 2-1 in a Group B clash.

The victory means Mumbai City augment on three points with Air Force Club and are three adrift of Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab, who grabbed their second consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates.

The 2020-21 ISL (Indian Super League) champions did not started at their best in the AFC Champions League as they were beaten in their opening game to Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab but they made an incredible comeback against Iraq’s Air Force Club on Monday.

Following a goalless first-half, the match took rapid progress as all 3 goals came in the second- half of the game.

Air Force Club dominated in the 59th minute through Hammadi Ahmad however the Indian side drew level as Diego Mauricio scored the penalty in the 70th minute.

The real reversal of the match, nevertheless, came when Rahul Bheke headed Jahouh’s corner in 75th minute to give Mumbai City a chance to lead.

Bheke also recorded the record of becoming the first Indian to score in an AFC Champions League fixture.

The Air Force Club gave their heart and soul in the dying minutes of the game but the Mumbai City defence held their nerves and stood strong to secure three points for their side.
