Chelsea’s magnificent victory at Southampton

Chelsea thrashes Southampton as two goals each by Timo Werner and Mason Mount and first half shots by Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz booked a 6-0 Premier League victory over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Chelsea augment 1-0 in the 8th minute as Alonso ran on to a flick by Mount and flamed in his first league goal since the opening day of the campaign.

Mount, Chelsea’s leading scorer in the league this season, balanced his tally of 9 goals from the previous campaign with a magnificent shot from outside the box following Southampton’s wobbly defence flunked to deal with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s cross.

Southampton’s continued collapsing as Werner made up for his earlier misses by surpassing Jan Bednarek for pace prior rounding Fraser Forster and ending into an empty net. Havertz then scored in Chelsea’s 4th after Werner again hit the post.

A non-stopping Chelsea were acknowledged again after the half-time as Werner netted a rebound from N’Golo Kante’s effort which was saved by Forster. Mount concluded the rout with another easy finish in the 54th minute.

It was the perfect tonic for the European champions, who were defeated 3-1 by Real Madrid in the opening leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday following being beaten 4-1 by Brentford last weekend after the international break.
