IPL 2022 will notice a clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday, 26th of March.
But prior the cricketing action starts at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the BCCI are set to compliment Tokyo Olympics medallists Neeraj Chopra, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dhaiya and Lovlina Borgohain.
Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra is anticipated to attend the ceremony, and will earn a reward of INR 1 crore from the BCCI. Neeraj will also attend the game between CSK vs KKR. Most members of the men and women’s hockey team from the Tokyo Olympics are also predicted to attend the ceremony.
India squadron triumphed six medals in the Tokyo Olympics last year – a marvellous achievement and the Indian cricket board will acknowledge these efforts.
Nevertheless, this will be the consecutive fourth year that BCCI will give opening ceremony a miss. Last time, when the gala opening ceremony was conducted to mark the starting of cricketing show was in 2018.
In 2019, the organisers decided to cancel gala ceremony due to Pulwama massacre. BCCI missed the opening ceremonies in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.
The board used to spend more than INR 40 to 45 crore over these ceremonies. However, since 2019, the IPL tourneys are being organized without any opening ceremonies.
