Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is set to make a comeback to the IPL but this time for a different role.
Watson, who has performed for franchises like Rajasthan Royals, RCB and Chennai Super Kings, is anticipated to join Delhi Capitals as the assistant coach.
As per a report, DC are eager on recruiting Watson in the coaching role following a suggestion from head coach Ricky Ponting. The report proposed that both parties have already concurred on terms and conditions as Watson will soon sign the agreement.
The Delhi-based franchise has diverted with Mohammad Kaif and Ajay Ratra, the assistant coaches from last season. Kaif assisted in the role from 2019 whilst Ratra’s stint was just for a single season (2021).
DC made some intelligent moves in the IPL 2022 Auctions as they signed players David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur to vitalize their squad.
Watson has abundance of experience of vanquishing the IPL title as a player with two teams – Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Chennai Super Kings (2018).
Aside from Watson, Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar is also expected to join Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach ahead of IPL 2022.
