Brad Hogg is angry at Mumbai Indians after IPL auctions 2022

Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. The men in blue and gold have won the title a whopping 5 times just one ahead of CSK to 4 titles. Mumbai Indians had a mixed time at the IPL auction table over the past weekend held at Bengaluru. The five time champs came into the auction having retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard. They saw the likes of Quinton De Kock and Trent Boult go to Lucknow and Rajasthan Respectively. Former Australian wrist spinner has now come out and blasted the Mumbai Indians for their decisions.

The story as it happened –

Former Australian wrist spinner Brad Hogg isn’t one bit impressed by the business carried out by Mumbai Indians at the Auction table. Mumbai splashed a whopping INR 15.25 Crores on 23 year old Ishan Kishan. The left hander is expected to don the gloves after Quinton De Kock’s departure. Kishan wasn’t retained by MI much to the surprise of many despite having a fruitful run with Mumbai since 2018. They surprised one and all when they bid and won the race for Jofra Archer who is set to miss IPL 2022 and only be available for IPL 2023. Speaking about this Hogg said “Spending 8 crores on Archer is a huge risk, especially after spending 15 Crores on Ishan Kishan. He’s had two elbow surgeries in the last 18 months, that’s the worst injury a fast bowler could have”

Mumbai Indians squad a concern?

According to many Mumbai Indians fans and cricket experts Mumbai Indians seem a bit light compared to the other teams in the league. Mumbai Indians also got the services of Dewald Brevis the under 19 South African prodigy compared to AB De Villiers. They also have got the services of Jaydev Unadkat, Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams and Tymal Mills. Along with signing under 19 talent like Thilak Varma and IPL veteran M. Ashwin and former Spinner Mayank Markande. Speaking about this Brad Hogg opined “they have a formidable top order in Rohit, Kishan, SKY and then David at 4, which is also a risk. Who’s going to bat at number 5 is a big question. The bowling department is where their headache starts. They don’t have the depth in their bowling and not many top classbowling and not many top class spinners. They also don’t have finishers like the Pandya brothers. This is one of the worst auctions Mumbai Indians have had”

Mumbai Indians will bank on their core and some of the new talents to bail them out in what looked a confusing time at the auction table for the 5 time champs. What happens in the season and how it unfolds will be for everyone to see.
