Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders in a last-ball thriller as they continue their sweet form winning three matches in a row. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings were looking to get a hat-trick of wins today as they faced off each other in the super Sunday’s afternoon fixture. KKR’s Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first in Abu Dhabi.
Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a shaky start as they lost Shubman Gill early getting out runout. The Chennai bowlers bowled very well in the powerplay, especially Shardul Thakur as he bowled a wicket maiden in his very first over. Chennai Super Kings were getting wickets at regular intervals as the KKR batsmen were struggling to score at a high run rate. Only in form, Rahul Tripathi played well up the order as he scored 45 runs. The Chennai bowlers kept bowling at good length and hardly gave batsmen any room. Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana’s late flourish took KKR to a decent total of 171 runs in 20 overs.
In the second innings, Chennai got off to a terrific start thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis. They made total use of the powerplay as they smashed the bowlers. They scored 52 runs in the powerplay and put up a healthy stand of 74 runs before Russel got Gaikwad out.
Moeen Ali played a gem of a knock as he scored 32 off 28 balls. He took the match till the very end until the KKR bowlers came back into the game with some quick wickets. The match went down the wire as Jadeja smashed 22 runs off the second last over. Jadeja pulled off the win with an 8-ball 22 which was studded with two fours and as many sixes to help his side reach 172 for 8 in 20 overs.
Sunil Narine was given the responsibility of bowling the final over as KKR had to defend 4 runs. He bowled magnificently as he took 2 wickets and brought the equation to 1 of 1. Deepak Chahar then came and finished the game as Chennai Super Kings won the match by 2 wickets.
