Shreyanka Patil Ruled Out of Women’s T20 World Cup, Prema Rawat Named Replacement

India Women have suffered a setback in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. All-rounder Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering an ankle injury.

The injury occurred while Shreyanka was fielding during India’s match against the Netherlands on June 17, 2026. After medical assessment, it was confirmed that she would not be able to take any further part in the competition.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has approved a replacement for the injured player. The Women’s Selection Committee has named leg-spinner Prema Rawat in India’s squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Prema Rawat Earns First Major World Cup Opportunity

Prema Rawat has impressed selectors with her recent performances for India A. The young leg-spinner played a key role in India A Women’s title-winning campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. She picked up eight wickets in five matches during the competition.

Prema also enjoyed success on India A’s tour of Australia last year. She finished as the joint-leading wicket-taker with seven wickets in just three matches. Her consistent performances have now earned her a place in the senior national squad.

India’s World Cup squad continues to be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain. The team will hope that Prema can make an immediate impact as they push for World Cup glory.

Meanwhile, Prema’s promotion has led to changes in the India A squads for the upcoming series against England A.

The Women’s Selection Committee has added Niki Prasad to the India A T20 squad. Minnu Mani has been included in the India A One-Day squad.

These changes ensure that both India Women and India A maintain strong squad depth ahead of important assignments. While Shreyanka’s injury is disappointing, it also opens the door for Prema Rawat to showcase her talent on one of the biggest stages in world cricket.
