MS Dhoni Could Return for One Final IPL Season in 2027

Former India captain MS Dhoni could still play one more season in the Indian Premier League. The Chennai Super Kings management is hopeful that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter will return for at least one match in IPL 2027 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Dhoni did not travel with the CSK squad for their final league match of IPL 2026 against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Reports suggest that he is still recovering from a prolonged calf injury. This is likely the first IPL season where Dhoni has missed all matches because of fitness issues.

Fans were expecting Dhoni to play CSK’s last home match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18. However, he was reportedly not fully fit to take the field. CSK eventually lost the game in a last-over thriller.

Suresh Raina shares conversation with Dhoni

Former CSK star Suresh Raina spoke about his conversation with Dhoni after the match. Raina said he encouraged the 44-year-old to return for another season in 2027.

“I told MS Dhoni ‘you have given IPL 2026 a missed call. It won’t count. You have to come back next year’. He said ‘nahi yaar, body thoda waisa hai (my body is a little weak)’. I said ‘we are not believing anything. You have to play next year’. It’s his personal call. I think he is positive. The team is also gelling well again,” Raina said via Star Sports.

For now, Dhoni’s future remains uncertain. But fans will continue to hope for one final appearance in the famous yellow jersey.
