Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a big blow in IPL 2026. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the tournament due to a serious injury.
The injury happened during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 at Chepauk. Khaleel looked in discomfort during the 17th over of the innings. While running in to bowl the final delivery, he suddenly felt pain in his right thigh. He tried to continue but had to stop midway.

Medical staff rushed in quickly. Khaleel walked off the field and could not complete his over. Gurjapneet Singh came in to finish the over, but the momentum shifted.
Later scans confirmed the injury was serious. Khaleel has suffered a Grade 2 tear in his quadriceps. Reports also say there is a partial tear in the rectus femoris tendon and a complete tear of the muscle’s direct head.
Doctors have advised him to rest and undergo rehabilitation. His recovery is expected to take around 10 to 12 weeks. This means he will miss the rest of IPL 2026.
This is a big setback for CSK. Khaleel was an important part of their pace attack this season. He played all five matches and provided early breakthroughs.
In the match against KKR, he bowled well before getting injured. He gave away only 17 runs in three overs and took the key wicket of Sunil Narine.
Overall this season, Khaleel conceded 146 runs in 16.5 overs and picked up 2 wickets.
CSK are already dealing with injuries in their fast bowling unit. Nathan Ellis is injured. Matt Henry is struggling with form. Spencer Johnson has not yet joined the squad.
Mukesh Choudhary could replace Khaleel if he is fit. All-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh is also an option.
CSK will now have to rethink their bowling plans. Their next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.
The team will hope to find a quick solution as the tournament enters a crucial stage.
