Rajasthan Royals produced a strong performance to defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The match was played at the ACA Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the hero of the night. His explosive innings helped RR end RCB’s winning run.
The 15-year-old batter played a stunning knock of 78 runs off just 26 balls. His innings included eight fours and seven sixes. His fearless batting surprised everyone. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
However, the biggest moment came after the match. Former RCB captain Virat Kohli appreciated the young talent. He walked up to Sooryavanshi and signed his match cap. It was a special moment for the youngster. Rajasthan Royals later shared a video where Sooryavanshi proudly showed the signed cap.
Young Star Stays Grounded After Match-Winning Knock
After the match, Sooryavanshi spoke about his performance and mindset. He said he would not celebrate much as the team had to travel early for their next game in Hyderabad.
“(On if he will be cutting a cake, having not done so on his birthday due to sleeping early) Not today (laughs). Have to sleep early today because we have an early flight tomorrow (smiles). I just try to do what I do in practice and try not to do extra and back my natural game. (On facing Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood) In the back of the mind, it is there (on who is bowling). I try to play the ball and not the bowler and play my game,” the Samastipur-born said.
He also spoke about the advice he receives from his family and coaches.
“My dad, my coaches, my guardian Romi Sir here – they “My dad, my coaches, my guardian Romi Sir here – they keep telling me that the journey is long and to focus on my process and my game without diverting my mind to different things. (On his disappointment at getting dismissed) If I am at the wicket, 10-20 runs extra can be scored or a target can be chased (1-2 overs earlier). That is what I get upset about – that I could play a little longer,” he concluded.
RR will now look to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming matches.
